[14 April 2026, Hong Kong] Mind HK’s “More Than a Label” anti-stigma campaign marks its fifth anniversary this year. Since its launch, the campaign has trained more than 190 Mental Health Ambassadors – individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges – to safely and openly share their recovery journeys. These powerful stories help the public challenge stigma, dismantle labels, and address and reshape misconceptions around mental illness. The campaign is supported by The Keswick Foundation and MINDSET, with sponsorship from Manulife Hong Kong and Macau.

As part of the annual exhibition series, “Refraction – A Journey of Our Mind,” co-created by Mental Health Ambassadors, is now open at The Rotunda, Exchange Square until 26 April. As one of the campaign’s flagship events, the exhibition draws inspiration from the way light refracts into a spectrum, symbolising the complexity of lived mental health experiences, the possibilities of recovery, and the insights that come through storytelling. Through immersive light, colour, interactive installations and personal narratives, visitors are guided on an introspective journey – from self-reflection to deeper appreciation of the diverse lived experiences – all within a thoughtfully designed space for emotional exploration.

While public awareness of mental health in Hong Kong has grown in recent years, invisible labels and stigma still make it difficult for many to express their feelings openly. With “refraction” as its central metaphor, the exhibition brings forward a spectrum of recovery stories shared directly by mental health ambassadors. Recovery is rarely linear; their voices form the heart of the exhibition, creating an inclusive environment where visitors are invited to listen to themselves and others with openness.

The exhibition marks a significant milestone for “More Than a Label,” which began five years ago with the aim of training individuals with lived experience to safely and openly share personal stories that are both unique and universally resonant. Many ambassadors have journeyed through confusion, fear, disappointment, and setbacks. Their honest accounts deserve to be seen, and together, they help reshape public understanding of mental health. More than an exhibition, it is an opportunity for connection – between storytellers, the public, and themselves.

Rosa, an ambassador and photographer behind the exhibition’s highlight artwork light painting photography, shared that “I’m on a mission to socially destigmatise mental health discussion. As pro-social beings, we need to do this together, not alone.”

Eddie, an ambassador for five years, said “This journey has been difficult, but it has also been illuminating. With each shared experience, each moment of support, I found pieces of myself that I thought were lost. I discovered resilience I never knew I had, and a fresh perspective on what it means to be strong.”

Jonathan, also a five-year ambassador, added that “Being a Mental Health Ambassador, I have not only witnessed my growth, but also honoured to be a companion for others on their journeys, and find resonance and courage in each other.”

| Four interactive zones illuminate mental health journeys |

Designed as a maze-like experience, the exhibition guides visitors through four interactive zones reflecting the ups and downs of recovery – and the moments when one may need to pause, reorient, or shift direction – just as refracted light bends yet continues forward.

Co-created by ambassadors, these works translate personal emotions and lived experiences into light, colour, and movement. Accompanied by written reflections, visitors can better understand both the ambassadors’ stories and their own.

Take-home card wall

A collection of 20 message cards created by ambassadors, featuring heartfelt notes, artwork, drawings, or audio reflections. Visitors may choose a card that resonates with them to take home or share with others.

Collaborative art wall: “Build a village”

Visitors can co-create a community-themed artwork by adding drawings or colour to a shared mural, symbolising how every contribution shapes the five-year journey of “More Than a Label” anti-stigma campaign.

Light-themed Photo Booth

Guests can take individual or group photos with neon installations and use a doodle glow board to record a memorable moment.

Collectible Luggage Tag

Using layered stamps, visitors can collect unique stamps at each zone to complete an artwork, which will be placed inside a luggage tag as a keepsake of their exhibition journey.

The exhibition welcomes visitors of all ages and encourages everyone to explore mental health in a gentle, accessible, and personal way. A heartfelt thank you to Hongkong Land Limited for generously sponsoring the venue.

| Public guided tours & ambassador sharing sessions |

A series of public guided tours, ambassador talks, and expressive art-based sharing sessions for schools and charities will run through the exhibition period. These sessions allow deeper exploration of themes such as men’s mental health, expressive art therapy, youth and family wellbeing, and mental health in the workplace.

Supervisors will monitor trainees’ development throughout the placement to ensure that they are meeting the required level of competency to pass the training course at the end of the placement.

Yes, it is necessary to book an appointment in advance by filling out the form. Additionally, you can select one of the five stores yourself. We will allocate clients to different Wellbeing Practitioners based on their chosen location.

Before having the conversation, we will ask you to fill out a basic questionnaire for preliminary screening assessment. This screening process aims to ensure that the training received by the Wellbeing Practitioners is sufficient to meet the needs of the individuals receiving the service. If it is determined after the screening assessment that the service is not suitable for you, Mind HK will provide alternative recommendations to ensure your safety and support.

For adults who are suitable for this service, all Wellbeing Practitioners have received training on how to identify and respond to safety and risk issues. If you have any concerns about the support process, the Wellbeing Practitioners have appropriate measures in place and will develop response plans based on the urgency of the situation.
