Throughout our past events, we have received questions about how to support friends or family members going through emotional distress. In traditional Asian households and school settings, mental wellbeing was rarely discussed. When our loved ones are struggling, how can we support them?
It is natural to feel overwhelmed when someone you love is struggling. We worry about saying the wrong thing or accidentally making things worse. When a family carries this weight of helplessness for too long, the mental wellbeing of the entire household can be affected.
On the flip side, if we are the one experiencing emotional distress, how can we gain family understanding while still finding the space to process our feelings?
We invite you to join our Manulife x Mind HK “Your Mental Health Matters” event. This time, we are excited to have YouTubers Agnes @agneswym and Jonas @ly_joxx to share their experiences in supporting each other within the family. Agnes, a Psychology Master’s graduate, and Jonas, who brings the vital perspective of lived experience, will discuss how they navigated emotional challenges together. Having found strength in family support, they now co-lead mental health initiatives to raise awareness. Joining them is Opal, our clinical advisor, who will provide professional insights on family dynamics and practical ways to support loved ones in distress.
