To read Ben and Kan’s story for More Than A Label, please see the story hyperlinked below as well as a brief description of our ambassadors:

Ben’s story: Ben is a British born marketing professional, living in Hong Kong for 4 years and Asia for 8, who has recovered from work place burnout, depression and anxiety. Ben is a mental health thriver, a runner, a reader, a music fan and is passionate about advocating for better workplace mental health.

Kan’s story: Kan retired from her own business to volunteer in charity work in her 50’s. Before that, she went through a period of burnout, depression and anxiety at work. During this time, she benefitted from jogging, reading, and particularly meaningful conversations with family and friends, this emotional support taught her the benefit of empathy. By opening up and revealing her vulnerabilities, helped her see that she is not alone, talking is therapeutic. Struggling with mental health is common in all walks of life.

Both Ben and Kan have contributed greatly to Mind HK’s More Than A Label Anti-Stigma campaign. They are both our ambassadors and have shared their story and recovery journey with us in our “More Than a Label: This is our story” book. Our book, which features a collection of mental health stories from diverse members of the Hong Kong community, is now on sale at Bookazine for $120 HKD, with all proceeds going back to supporting our campaign.

「More Than a Label

“More than a Label 我就是我” is Mind HK new campaign in partnership with MINDSET, which stems from its goal of changing and influencing the public’s perception towards persons with diagnosable mental health conditions. Funded by Jardines Matheson, this campaign encourages the public to look beyond the typical, stigmatising, labels associated with mental health diagnoses. Through personal stories of mental health journeys, we want to showcase realistic portrayals of people who have faced mental health problems and recovered and depict their holistic identity.

With this campaign, we hope to raise awareness of the stigma towards persons with mental health conditions, celebrate the resilience and strength of people in recovery, and educate and equip the public with mental health knowledge. We believe this will facilitate more conversation in mental health, which will in turn help destigmatise mental health in Hong Kong.
