This November, More Than A Label is collaborating with Mind the Waves, a mental wellness organisation founded by Hong Kong Olympic swimmers Stephanie Au, Camille Cheng and Jamie Yeung for a discussion on mental health. Our ambassadors will also share their mental health journeys and experiences with sports and wellbeing. Click here to sign up for the event.
The Paris Olympics brought a wave of excitement for sports and sportsmanship to the public. Meanwhile, athletes’ mental well-being has also gained attention as a significant topic in sports. In addition to rigorous training and achieving excellent results, taking care of mental health is also a crucial part of sport.
Join us at the Jockey Club Studio Theatre inside the Fringe Club on Wednesday 6th November 2024 for a brief networking event, followed by a mental health story sharing and discussion. November 6th is also International Stress Awareness Day! So come join us in listening to our Mind HK ambassadors and Mind The Waves founders and Hong Kong Olympians share their perspectives on their mental health recovery journey from conditions like anxiety, depression and high stress, how sports and mental health are interconnected and how sports can help alleviate stress.
The event is free entry but registration is required to allow us to have an approximate guest count. Donations are welcome and encouraged – all proceeds will go back to support Mind HK’s anti-stigma work.

Guest Introduction:
Claire (Mind HK Ambassador)
Claire is an international rower who formally was part of the Hong Kong National Team, and currently still training as a high performance athlete.
Having had to navigate the ups and downs of her mental health throughout her life, she has learned to believe in self-compassion and self-advocacy, and aims to help others build resilience and within themselves by opening up the conversations around metal health.
Heinok (Mind HK Ambassador)
Heinok was born and spent most of her life in Hong Kong. She is a dentist, yoga instructor and singing bowl sound healer. As a perfectionist with a fast-paced life, Heinok experienced anxiety and high-functioning depression. With the support of her family, friends, boyfriend & therapist, she has learnt to work with her anxiety and depression towards recovery. Throughout it all, movement has been part of her routine to slow down and find calmness in the chaos.
She likes to practice yoga, play tennis, netball and hike. From her own experience, she hopes to share her life motto of ‘movement is a form of medicine’ with others.
Mina (Mind HK Ambassador)
Camille Cheng (Mind The Waves Co-founder and Hong Kong Olympian)
Camille is a 2x Hong Kong Olympian with a heart of gold. She has a psychology background with immense passion in passing the knowledge and tools on mental wellness to others.
Moderator Introduction:
Vicki Tsang, Assistant Manager (anti-stigma)
Vicki graduated with a Masters in Social Work with a strong background and passion in mental health and psychology stemming from her Bachelors in Psychology.
With over five years of experience in mental health initiatives and supporting people with their mental health in both Vancouver and Edinburgh, Vicki hopes to bring her experience to Mind HK and help destigmatize mental health in Hong Kong. She hopes to normalize the conversation around mental health and the need for mental health support in the bustling city of Hong Kong where the conversation surrounding mental health can be a taboo topic. Prior to joining Mind HK, Vicki worked to support UNHCR and refugees as they are another one of Hong Kong’s most stigmatized population groups.
Vicki is an outdoor enthusiast and an advocate for spending quality time in nature. In her personal time, she is a keen marathoner, occasionally ultramarathoner, hiker and an avid climber.
About “More Than A Label”
“More Than a Label” is Mind HK’s anti-stigma campaign, in partnership with and sponsored by MINDSET Hong Kong, and sponsored by Manulife, which stems from its goal of changing and influencing the public’s perception towards persons with diagnosable mental health conditions. This campaign encourages the public to look beyond the typical, stigmatising, labels associated with mental health diagnoses. Through personal stories of mental health journeys, we want to showcase realistic portrayals of people who have faced mental health problems and recovered and depict their holistic identity.
With this campaign, we hope to raise awareness of the stigma towards persons with mental health conditions, celebrate the resilience and strength of people in recovery, and educate and equip the public with mental health knowledge. We believe this will facilitate more conversation in mental health, which will in turn help destigmatise mental health in Hong Kong.
About “Mind The Waves”
Our ambition for Mind The Waves is simple; to start a conversation that’s easy and fun for any young person in Hong Kong to join. And that conversation is designed specifically to help dismantle the stigma that currently exists around people and their mental wellbeing.
