SUMMARY:[Manulife x Mind HK] Your Mental Health Matters Event - Supporting Mental Health within the Family
DESCRIPTION:Throughout our past events\, we have received questions about how to support friends or family members going through emotional distress. In traditional Asian households and school settings\, mental wellbeing was rarely discussed. When our loved ones are struggling\, how can we support them? \nIt is natural to feel overwhelmed when someone you love is struggling. We worry about saying the wrong thing or accidentally making things worse. When a family carries this weight of helplessness for too long\, the mental wellbeing of the entire household can be affected. \nOn the flip side\, if we are the one experiencing emotional distress\, how can we gain family understanding while still finding the space to process our feelings? \nWe invite you to join our Manulife x Mind HK “Your Mental Health Matters” event. This time\, we are excited to have YouTubers Agnes @agneswym and Jonas @ly_joxx to share their experiences in supporting each other within the family. Agnes\, a Psychology Master’s graduate\, and Jonas\, who brings the vital perspective of lived experience\, will discuss how they navigated emotional challenges together. Having found strength in family support\, they now co-lead mental health initiatives to raise awareness. Joining them is Opal\, our clinical advisor\, who will provide professional insights on family dynamics and practical ways to support loved ones in distress. \nRegister now before the spots run out! \nDate: 18 March 2025 (Wed)\nTime: 7:00 – 8:30 pm\nVenue: Hong Kong Central Library (Lecture Theatre\, G/F)\, Causeway Bay\nPrice: Free of charge (Each participant is required to pay a deposit of HK$50\, which will be refunded after attending the event\, or you may choose to donate the deposit to Mind HK to support mental health services.)\nLanguage: Cantonese\nRegistration: https://your-mental-health-matters-march18event.eventbrite.hk\nFor more information: events@mind.org.hk \n*This event is organised by Mind HK\, with support from Headline Sponsor Manulife.

SUMMARY:[Manulife x Mind HK] Your Mental Health Matters Event - Listening to Our Emotions
DESCRIPTION:Our emotions act as vital internal signals. Anxiety often highlights a challenge we need to face\, while anger may signal a boundary being crossed or a personal value being compromised. When we suppress or ignore these cues\, we risk becoming disconnected from ourselves\, which can take a significant toll on our physical and mental wellbeing. \nThroughout her career\, actress Samantha Ko Hoi Ling has navigated the profound impact of emotional distress. Under intense professional pressure and public scrutiny\, Samantha experienced depression twice. Her struggle surfaced physically through alopecia areata\, hyperthyroidism\, and panic attacks. In an industry that often demands perfection\, she struggled with self-doubt and even considered quitting the show business entirely.\nRealising that her mental health was impacting her life and work\, Samantha sought professional support from psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. Through practices like yoga and meditation\, she discovered her own path to healing. Today\, she has regained her sense of self-worth and purpose\, finding true reconciliation with her emotional journey. \nWe warmly invite you to hear about the valuable lessons she has learned through her mental health journey. SUMMARY:[Free Webinar] Parental Mental Health - Lunch and Learn
DESCRIPTION:A parent’s mental health forms the cornerstone of a happy family. Frequently\, parents instinctively prioritise their children’s needs\, often at the expense of their own emotional wellbeing. Research indicates that approximately 12.6% and 16.5% of adults aged 25 to 55 in Hong Kong experience depression or anxiety. More importantly\, parental stress levels have a direct impact on their children’s psychological wellbeing. \nMind HK is dedicated to promoting mental health education for parents. Over the past few years\, through our training programmes and evidence-based psychological support services\, we have delivered over 12\,500 support sessions and trained 6\,400 individuals to improve their mental health literacy. \nWe invite you to a Zoom webinar focusing on parental mental health. We are excited to welcome Dr Michelle Tam\, Specialist in Psychiatry\, and Dr Candice Powell\, CEO and Clinical Psychologist at Mind HK. Together\, they will share insights on how to balance family care with your own emotional needs\, identify early signs of stress\, and access appropriate support to ensure you do not have to face emotional difficulties alone. \nDate: Friday\, 26 June 2026\nTime: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM\nFormat: Online via Zoom\nLanguage: Cantonese\nHost: Mr Kelvin Pang\, iACT Programme Manager\, Mind HK\nGuest Speakers:\nDr Candice Powell\, CEO & Clinical Psychologist\, Mind HK\nDr Michelle Tam\, Specialist in Psychiatry\nRegistration: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1SVt49TsDHVzKKexrE7Eqx2uJbLoxZD1nA2-HTHmCt84/\n*Prior registration is required

SUMMARY:[Manulife x Mind HK] Your Mental Health Matters: Express to Destress
DESCRIPTION:As we grow older and navigate the weight of societal norms and expectations\, many of us tend to suppress our emotions\, especially the negative ones. It is crucial to remember that there is no right or wrong way to feel. Expressing our emotions is essential not only for understanding our own feelings but also for helping others comprehend what we are going through. By embracing and managing our emotions\, we can channel that emotional energy into personal strength. \n  \nIn our daily lives\, there are plenty of ways to release and process our feelings\, such as through art and music. Even if you cannot find the right words\, you can still express your current state of mind in a safe and non-judgmental space. This is true for singer-songwriter Wilson Ng as well. Transitioning from a social worker to pursuing music full-time\, he faced work-related stress\, exhausted all his savings\, and encountered numerous hardships. He even battled emotional distress that eventually required him to take a step back and rest. \n  \nLater\, he adjusted his pace and looked to songwriting for nourishment. Rather than worrying about success or others’ expectations\, he chose to be true to himself. Although he is not comfortable with showing his vulnerable side\, reflecting on his original intentions for making music and pouring his heart into what he loves brought him pure joy and inner fulfilment\, leaving no room for fear or overthinking. \n  \nThis summer\, we warmly invite you to explore different ways of easing emotional distress and explore how expressive arts can support emotional expression and self-discovery. Besides\, we will have Vera Lui \, a gender equality and women’s advocate\, and local illustrator Chewbbies\, who will share how art and illustration can serve as media for uncovering our inner voices. Additionally\, we have invited VOOA to host two “My Lyric Picture” Expressive Arts Workshop\, guiding you to explore your inner self through visual art and music. We believe everyone can find their own way to express their emotions and be at peace with themselves! \n  \nYour Mental Health Matters: Express to Destress (Sharing Section)\nDate: 22 August\, Saturday\nTime: 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm\nVenue: Multi-function Hall I\, 25/F\, The HKFYG Building\nFeatured Speakers: \n\nWilson Ng\, Singer-songwriter\nVera Lui\, Gender Equality & Women’s Advocate\nChewbbies\, Local illustration brand\nDawn\, Expressive Arts Therapist\n\nLanguage: Cantonese\nRegistration: https://your-mental-health-matters-August22event.eventbrite.hk\n*Free of charge; pre-registration required; first-come\, first-served \n  \n“My Lyric Picture” Expressive Arts Workshop by VOOA\nTime: 3:30 pm – 4:45 pm\nVenue: Meeting Room\, 10/F\, The HKFYG Building\nCapacity: 90 ppl\nLanguage: Cantonese\nPrice: Free of charge (Each participant is required to pay a deposit of HK$ 80\, which will be refunded after attending the workshop\, or you may choose to donate the deposit to Mind HK to support mental health services.)\nRegistration: https://your-mental-health-matters-August22event.eventbrite.hk \n  \nFor more information: event@mind.org.hk
